Social Networks and Your Job

Hello there,

I was hired at Walmart on the first of April, and something they said to us really bothered me; they said that they would be monitoring our social networking sites. And that reminded me of the news story that told how some employers would ask for the person's Facebook or Twitter account passwords. Well, how do I feel about all of this? I don't think it is right! It's an invasion of our privacy.

If I applied to a job/ went to a job interview, and they asked for my password to ANY site, I would immediately refuse. I would rather work at a lower paying job than have my privacy invaded like that. I know that anything on Facebook or Twitter, or anything on the internet really, is public, but so what? I should be able to say what I want when I want on these sites, as long as it isn't against the law and those sites' terms.

Say there wasn't an internet, or at least the social networking sites. And your employer either would come themselves, or send somebody else, to watch over you at home. Like they would watch over your every movement and conversation. They would see every game you play. They would see whom is in your family, and who your friends are. How would you feel about this? Because this is what employers are doing by monitoring your accounts.

So yes, there are ways to view all of our accounts anyways.., but should we really have to watch what we say? We should be able to complain about our job or boss all that we want, without a penalty. Because we can do that at home..

I honestly don't see how ANYBODY can disagree with my opinion, if you do, then leave the USA, because this means that you don't want freedom. We should be able to vent to our friends/family, regardless of how we do so.

This is all I have to say about this topic for now. Please comment with your opinion of this topic. And again, I would strongly appreciate it if you would email me with suggestions on topics to write about.
